Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is a reading competition designed to challenge identified gifted students. The preselected list of 40 books is determined with these students in mind. Each participant is expected to read at least 10-12 books. Special recognition is paid to those who choose to read all 40 books. Students who have a great deal of task committment and an intrinsic love of reading will be the most successful.
The Battle of the Books begins each October, but the list of books is available over the summer. The sooner you get started, the more time teams will have to prepare for the competition. Even though this is a competitive event, students work as a team and teamwork will be emphasized. All building competitions should occur by March 1. The regional competition occurs the week after Spring Break with the final round held in April.
This year Windsor has 16 students participating. They are working toward earning a spot on the final team of 6 students. These students will then compete against other elementary schools in our region in hopes of making it to the final all-district competition.
